SI.com's Andy Staples thinks that FSU tight end Nick O'Leary is one of the top 15 freshmen in the nation that will contribute and make an impact right away when the season starts next week.
Here's what Staples had to say about the Seminoles' young star:
" What will Nike do if O'Leary becomes a star? Never will O'Leary catch a touchdown pass and then tent his fingers to show a school logo on the palms of his gloves. O'Leary doesn't wear gloves. The naked hands and a playing style that would look ideal in a leather helmet with no facemask have earned O'Leary a nickname from his teammates and coaches: Throwback. O'Leary, the grandson of golfer Jack Nicklaus, is a matchup nightmare for defenses in the passing game, but he's also a nasty, physical player who doesn't mind blocking. With fellow freshman Timmy Jernigan also wreaking havoc at defensive tackle, FSU's class of 2011 could make a huge impact early."

Tony Barnhart, a.k.a Mr. College Football, just put out a story highlight the 10 games this season that will help settle the BCS and he has the FSU-Oklahoma matchup on the list.
Here's what he had to say about the Sept 17 game in Tallahassee:
"Oklahoma at Florida State, Sept. 17 : A year ago the Sooners destroyed the Seminoles in Norman (47-17) and it probably would have been a lot worse if the little brother of Oklahoma's head coach (Bob Stoops) wasn't the Florida State defensive coordinator (Mark Stoops). But this is Year 2 of Jimbo Fisher in Tallahassee and the defense is finally starting to resemble the Florida State units of old. FSU fans started talking about this game about five minutes after the Seminoles beat South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. With all due respect to the Big 12, this will be the toughest road game the Sooners play all season."

The magazine features guest editor Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. The folks at ESPN asked Peterson who was the defensive player he least liked to go against and the NFL's top running back said it was Sims.

The Steelers today signed linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a six-year, $50 million contract. Timmons, the first draft choice in Mike Tomlin's first year as coach in 2007, had one year left on the contract he signed as a rookie. He now is signed through 2016.
That signing also likely will be the last contract extension the Steelers do this year, which means there will be no extension negotiated for safety Troy Polamalu this year, the last year of his contract. Polamalu could become a free agent in March. However, the Steelers also could put the franchise tag on him to prevent that. They did that with linebacker LaMarr Woodley this year and then signed Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract. Woodley was drafted in the second round after Timmons in 2007.

I recently had the chance to talk Florida State football with the guys from ESPN1080 radio in Orlando, Fla. Here's the audio file from my appearance.
With a successful summer of Seminole swimming drawing to a
close, the swim team of '11-'12 are getting ready to make their way back to
Tallahassee! The summer came to an end
with some great results from Nationals and sectional meets. Many Olympic Trial cuts have been taken, even
by some incoming freshmen. We have
created a fantastic building block for the college season that is fast
approaching which, I think, fills everyone with excitement of how successful
this season could be!
With a new assistant coach, new captains, and new freshmen/transfers,
the first few weeks of school are definitely going to be an exciting time of
the year! Most people get into town at
least the weekend before school starts, and this is when the upper classman
take trips to the dorms to meet and greet the freshman. It is awesome getting to know each freshman
individually and getting to know their personality.
Around the second/third week of school the girls usually
take a night away for a team bonding weekend.
This usually happens at a cabin in Georgia where we eat great food from
the Barbie, play some games and spend some quality time together as a girl's
team. It is a great way to introduce the
freshmen to the team and for them to get to know everyone. It is a great and fun time to try and think
of new, original cheers and incorporate new team traditions!
After a few weeks of training as a team and getting to know
everyone, the excitement of being back with the team and getting ready for some
great competing this year will definitely kick in! The season starts off early this year and
with meets five weekends in a row, we have a tough but exciting meet schedule
ahead! We start off our meets with a
tri-meet, away, against FGCU and UM on October 1st. Out first home dual meet is against LSU on
October 14th so be sure to attend the meet at the Morcom Aquatic center to
watch the Seminoles take some titles!
