Here's a played-out pseudo joke that I've been telling since 2002 when I moved from Orlando to Tallahassee for my freshman year at Florida State: "The only reason I came to FSU is because of Deion Sanders."
That may not be 100 percent accurate but a lot of truth is said in jest. And even though I ultimately chose FSU over other schools because of a variety of factors, there is no denying that Sanders is the primary reason I began following the Seminoles back in the late 1980s when I was a kid. It was his flair and other-worldly ability in the garnet and gold that drew me to the 'Noles. He made every play exciting.
I met my wife at Florida State and we had a daughter in Tallahassee. In a weird way, I may have never met her had Sanders not gone to FSU.
Today Sanders, who will forever be considered one of the greatest football players of all time, was finally inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. So here's a heartfelt congratulations to Prime Time.
And an even bigger thank you for being a Seminole.
Here is a picture of two things on the corner of my desk:
Deion and the place his meteoric career began.
