Monk Bonasorte Celebration Of Life Ceremony Set For Monday
Tallahassee, Fla. - A celebration of the life of Florida State Senior Associate Athletic Director Monk Bonasorte will be held by the family and Florida State Athletics at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28th, in Doak Campbell Stadium. Bonasorte passed away late Saturday evening after battling brain cancer for just over a year.
An All-America safety for Florida State from 1977-80, Bonasorte was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding career. He helped create FSU’s Varsity Club, which is open to FSU letterwinners in all sports, and served as the president and executive director of the organization from 2003 until 2008. He joined the athletic department’s executive staff in 2008 where he oversaw the department’s internal operations as well as FSU’s highly-successful football, soccer and softball programs.
“Monk was a loyal, dependable giant of an athletics administrator whose hard work and dedication to Florida State and Florida State Athletics extended into the larger FSU and collegiate athletics communities. He was a devoted, highly-respected athletics staff member who was beloved by all who came to know him,” said FSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox earlier this week.
Prior to returning to FSU, Bonasorte spent seven years working with the Elmont Sports Group where he served as the marketing director for two seasons for the Tallahassee Scorpions indoor professional soccer team, as well as the director of marketing for the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks (1997-99) hockey team. Additionally, Bonasorte's managerial experience included a stint with the Arena Football League's Tallahassee Thunder from 1999-2003 as Vice President and General Manager.
Attendees are invited to enter Doak Campbell Stadium through Gate C, which is located at midfield on the west side of the stadium just behind the Sportsmanship Statue. The gate will open at 2:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Attendees can park in marked spaces in the university lots around the stadium without getting ticketed beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
Attendees should sit in the stands near the 50-yard line behind where the Seminole team benches are located during home games.
