TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) -- Florida State, which won its 2016-17 ACC opener with an 88-72 victory over Wake Forest on Wednesday night in Tallahassee, travels to play at No. 11/12 Virginia at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.  The Seminoles’ game against the Cavaliers begins the toughest stretch of games that any one team has ever faced as it plays five of its next six games (including four straight) against nationally ranked teams.  That number could jump to six consecutive games against nationally ranked opponents when the national rankings are released on Jan. 2.  The Seminoles face (in order) No. 11/ 12 Virginia (Dec. 31), Virginia Tech (11-1 overall, Jan, 7), No. 5/5 Duke (Jan. 10), No. 9/10 North Carolina (Jan. 14), No. 24/24 Notre Dame (Jan. 18) and No. 6/7 Louisville (Jan. 21).  Florida State’s game against Virginia is its second game of the season against a ranked team – the Seminoles defeated No. 21/21 Florida, 83-78, in Tallahassee on Dec. 11.  Following Florida State’s game at Virginia, the Seminoles play host to Virginia Tech on Saturday, January 7, at 2:00 p.m. in Tallahassee.

BEST STARTS IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Florida State’s 13-1 start to the 2016-17 season matches the best 14-game start in school history.  The Seminoles have started two different seasons with 13-1 records (1988-8 and 2016-17).  The 1988-89 team, which played in the 1989 NCAA Tournament, won 16 of their first 17 games (16-1) before suffering their second loss.  Florida State’s 13-1 start under head coach Leonard Hamilton marks the best start for a Leonard Hamilton coached team at Florida State.

HAMILTON MOVING UP THE ACC COACHING VICTORY CHARTS
Seminole head coach Leonard Hamilton enters Florida State’s game against Virginia as the eighth all-time winningest coach in ACC history with 269 overall wins.  He has surpassed both Frank McGuire (North Carolina and South Carolina) and Norm Sloan (NC State) in the first 14 games of the 2016-17 season to move from 10th all-time into his current position as the eighth all-time winningest coach in ACC history.  He is currently 11th in ACC history with 115 all-time ACC wins (regular season and tournament games) and needs only three ACC wins to surpass Sloan and move into 10th place in ACC history.

BACON HAS SCORED IN DOUBLE FIGURES IN 23 STRAIGHT GAMES
Sophomore Dwayne Bacon, who is only 211 points from becoming only the second sophomore in school history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau, has scored in double figures in a personal-best 23 consecutive games.  He added to his steak as he scored his ACC career-best 23 points in Florida State’s victory over Wake Forest on Wednesday night in Tallahassee.  Bacon has scored in double figures in 23 consecutive games and in eight consecutive games against ACC competition.  He enters Saturday’s game at Virginia ranked eighth in the ACC in scoring with his career-high 17.4 points per game scoring average.

SEMINOLES LEAD THE ACC IN FIELD GOAL SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
Florida State enters Saturday’s game against Virginia with an ACC leading .513 team field goal shooting percentage and ranked second in the ACC in scoring with an 88.1 points per game scoring average.  The Cavaliers enter the game ranked first in the ACC in field goal shooting percentage defense (.347) and first in scoring defense (47.7ppg).  Something has to give on Saturday in Charlottesville.
