Jackson Lueck Earns Team USA Tryout
OMAHA – Sophomore Jackson Lueck has earned a tryout with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, the organization announced Tuesday. The tryout will consist of four games at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., and one at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Va.
The tryout runs from June 22-26. If Florida State is still playing in the College World Series, Lueck will stay with the Seminoles, but can still be selected for the Collegiate National Team.
For the season, Lueck is hitting a team-high .319 with 20 extra-base hits (nine home runs) and 54 runs batted in, despite missing 13 games. Lueck has not committed an error in 75 chances as the Seminoles starting left fielder. Lueck has three walk-off hits this season, including an RBI single against Sam Houston State in game one of the Super Regionals.
As a freshman in 2016, Lueck hit .379 with 16 extra base hits and 35 RBI in 47 games.
Lueck looks to join a long line of Seminoles that have participated on Team USA, including Taylor Walls and Cole Sands last season.
The primary pool of players under consideration for the Collegiate National Team is comprised of non-draft-eligible players currently playing baseball at the collegiate level. A selection of the year's USA Baseball Collegiate National Team field staff and USA Baseball staff members will evaluate data from the current college season, as well as possibly using data from the prior summer collegiate wood bat leagues, as they deliberate on players for the national team.
Once the staff has reached resolution, USA Baseball will contact the player's head baseball coach and offer a player a spot on the roster, as well as discuss their expected role on the team. In some instances, roster spots may not be offered, but instead players may be invited to the Collegiate National Team training camp for a trial period where the final roster will be determined.
Florida State will play LSU Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern in an elimination game at the College World Series. For more information on Florida State baseball, check Seminoles.com for the latest news and scheduling information, or keep up with the team on social media through Twitter (@FSUBaseball), Facebook (/FSUBaseball), and Instagram (@NoleBaseball).
