TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior infielder Dylan Busby and shortstop Taylor Walls were named to the 2017 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List Wednesday afternoon, USA Baseball announced. The 55-player watch list includes players from 16 different conferences and Florida State is one of only 12 teams to have at least two players named to the list.
Busby, who was recently named a Preseason All-American by Baseball America, led the 2016 Seminoles with a .597 slugging percentage, five triples, and 14 home runs.
Walls ranked second nationally with 72 runs scored and amongst all returning players, Walls led Florida State with 88 hits, 20 doubles and 14 stolen bases in the 2016 season.
Both Busby and Walls have earned Preseason All-America honors and have ranked in Baseball America’s Top 100 College Draft Prospects for 2017.
A Florida State player has won the award four previous times, more than any other program. Busby and Walls look to become the fifth Seminole to win the award, joining Mike Fuentes , Mike Loynd , J.D. Drew , and Buster Posey .
The Golden Spikes Award has been given to honor the top amateur baseball player in the country since 1978. The midseason watch list for this prestigious award will be released on April 12, and the winner of the 2017 Golden Spikes Award is set to be announced on Thursday, June 29.
