TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Beginning on Monday morning, Florida State Men's Golf's pursuit of having an amateur compete in next month's U.S. Open in Erin Hills officially begins.

Nine current Florida State Men's Golf student-athletes will participate in various local and sectional qualifiers across the states of Georgia and Florida. The 117th U.S. Open, which is played in Erin, Wisc., will be held June 15-18.

A total of 114 local qualifiers will be conducted in 44 states and Canada for the 117th U.S. Open Championship. The 18-hole qualifiers are scheduled to take place from May 2-18. Those who advance out of their local qualifiers will then compete in the final step of the process, which is the sectional qualifiers.

The sectional qualifiers will take place over 36 holes at 12 different sites – two United States sites (all on June 5), one on May 22 (Japan) and one on May 29 (England). Redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar has earned an exemption from local qualifying and will compete at the Jupiter Hills Club sectional qualifier in Tequesta, Fla., on June 5.

Del Solar's exemption is because of his Top 50 World Amateur Golf Ranking, where he comes in at 49th. The native of Chile has reached sectional qualifying before, including two years ago when he reached a playoff to determine the final qualifier spot for the open in Jupiter, Fla.

The other current Seminoles competing in local qualifiers this week are seniors Anthony Alex and Josh Lee, redshirt junior Harry Ellis, sophomores Bennett Baker, Tyler Bakich and Corey Carlson, redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler and freshman Greyson Porter.

Past Seminole Jack Maguire will also be looking to earn a repeat spot at the U.S. Open. As an amateur in 2015 while at FSU, Maguire carded a 4-under in his 36 holes at the sectional qualifier at the Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla. The score was good enough for one of the qualifier's four spots at the U.S. Open.

Current PGA Tour pro and Seminole Alum Daniel Berger has already earned an exemption for the U.S. Open because he qualified for the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship in 2016.

Florida State Men's Golf also has its sights set on their upcoming NCAA Regional in Sammamish, Wash., at Aldarra Golf Club. FSU is the No. 4 seed and will compete in its 12th consecutive regional May 15-17.

Keppler begins FSU's pursuit for the U.S. Open on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Summer Grove Golf Club in Newnan, Ga. Below is when each FSU golfer will compete, which consists of just one round of 18 holes played in the local qualifier.
