KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Seminoles.com) – Redshirt senior Florida State Men’s golfer Cristobal Del Solar won his first tournament title on Sunday, shooting an 8-under 205 (72-65-68) to finish on top at the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate at the Club at Irish Creek.

It was a 1-2 finish for the Seminoles, as senior Josh Lee shot 7-under overall to take second place. As a team, Florida State finished in third place at 10-under (286-273-283).

Del Solar entered this weekend’s tournament with two Top-5 finishes already this year, including a runner-up spot at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C. The win on Sunday is the first of his career, shooting a 3-under 68 in his final round. He was bolstered by his 65 in the second round.

The Chile native recorded four birdies in his final round. A key to his sharp-shooting weekend was his efficiency on par 3 holes, leading the field with an aggregate 3-under score on the short holes. Del Solar began the weekend as Golfstat’s 18th-ranked individual in the country, a ranking that is sure to rise following his win.

Del Solar’s aggregate score of 205 is his lowest this season. His career best score is a 203 at the 2014 USF Invitational.

Florida State’s 1-2 finish between Del Solar and Lee is the first time FSU has swept first and second place in a tournament since 2013. In that year, current PGA Tour golfer Daniel Berger (first) and Chase Seiffert (tied for second) went 1-2 at the Seminole Intercollegiate.

Lee recorded an even-par 71 on Sunday, shooting a 7-under 206 (66-69-71) overall. He finished in the Top 4 in par 3 (tied for fourth at 1-under) and par 5 (tied for third at 6-under) scoring. His 206 tournament score is a career low.

Sophomore Bennett Baker delivered the second Top 10 finish of his career, tying his low tournament score with a 2-under 211 (68-68-75). The Tallahassee, Fla., native tied for ninth overall with 12 total birdies over his three rounds. Baker played individually, so his score did not count toward FSU’s team total.

Redshirt junior Harry Ellis tied for 25th at 1-over (214), while redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler (+6) tied for 47th. Freshman Jamie Li finished 12-over.

UNF won the tournament shooting 14-under. Wake Forest (-12) finished in second place, followed by FSU in third, Kennesaw State (-9) in fourth and North Carolina (-2) in fifth.

Florida State’s next competition will be the annual ACC Championship taking place April 21-23 at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, S.C.
