Taylor Braziel enters his third season as volunteer assistant coach for the men’s tennis team. Braziel joins the Seminoles after working at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy since 2011, working with the top ranked junior tennis players. Macci has coached five former No. 1 tennis players in the world: Americans Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Venus & Serena Williams; and Russian Maria Sharapova.

At Florida State, Braziel has introduced technological advances including the use of heart rate monitors in practice to improve conditioning, and also implements player video and analytics to improve on-court decision making. In his two years at Florida State, the Seminoles increased from 18 to 20 wins, and in 2015 advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.

Individually in 2015, juniors Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez finished the year ranked in the ITA Doubles Top 20 and made the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

Braziel is a teaching professional certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) serving as a hitting partner for Jan Abaza who reached a career high ranking of 374 by the WTA.

Additionally, he worked with current Seminole redshirt freshman Jose Gracia and at the DB Racquet Club, helping develop Cole Fiegel of Georgia Tech and working under former NCAA Doubles Champion Dave Blair.

Braziel is a native of Niceville, Fla., and received an AA in Exercise and Sport Science at Santa Fe Community College and is continuing his bachelor’s degree here at Florida State.
