2015: Outdoor – Earned second-team All-American honors in the 400 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with the ninth-fastest time (46.02) in the semifinal round…qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships by grabbing the12th and final spot at the NCAA East (46.11) after recording the fastest time in the first round (45.99)…claimed his first ACC Championship with a season-best 45.43 at home as the Noles won the team title…posted regular season 400 wins at the Longhorn Invitational (46.46) and Miami Alumni Invitational (45.94)…added a 200 victory in a collegiate-best time of 21.11 at the FSU Invitational. Indoor - earned second-team All-American honors indoors with the 10th-fastest time at NCAA Championship in prelims (46.49)...qualified 14th for the NCAA Indoor Championships with his win at the Alex Wilson Invitational in 46.31... ranks No. 3 all-time in the 400 indoors among Noles...placed third at the ACC Indoor Championships in 46.80...making his second NCAA Indoor appearance after earning All-American honors on FSU’s 4x400 relay team last year in Albuquerque, N.M....after earning All-American honors as a member of FSU’s NCAA Indoor Championships 4x400 relay…Cherry qualified for NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400 with a lifetime-best mark of 45.37, but was unable to compete due to injury…recovered in time to win gold at the World Junior Championships as member of USA’s 4x400 relay team.
2014: Competed in just four outdoor meets during his freshman season while nursing an injury...qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400 with a lifetime-best 45.37 at the NCAA East Preliminary...that mark was the fastest junior 400 in the world and the No. 7 mark in program history...also contributed a leg to FSU’s NCAA-qualifying 4x400 relay...a nagging injury prevented him from competing at NCAA Outdoor Championships… recovered in time to win gold as a member of the USA’s 4x400 relay team...helped the Seminoles to the ACC Outdoor Championships team title by placing fifth in the 400 and contributing a monster leg to the title-clinching 4x400 relay third-place finish…carried the baton on the third leg of FSU’s seventh-place 4x400 relay team at the NCAA Indoor Championships, earning All-American honors…that performance earned the Noles a fourth-place team finish…held FSU to the ACC Indoor Championships as member of 4x400...ran season-best 46.57 at the Razorback Invitational to finish sixth.
Personal: Was one of the nation’s most celebrated long sprinters out of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va….gave up basketball to focus on track early in his career and went on to claim eight Virginia State titles, ranging from 200 to 500 meters...set the national high school 300-meter record indoors in 2013 (33.05) on the way to a state title...is a three-time New Balance National champion, claiming the 2012 and 2013 outdoor titles in the 400, as well as the 2013 indoor 400 crown...boasted high school PRs of 10.79 (100), 21.32 (200), 46.02 (400) and 1:53.1 (800)...born March 23, 1995.
