TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - The University of Georgia Women's Golf team rallied from eight strokes down entering the final round to win the team championship of the inaugural Florida State University Match-Up Tournament at SouthWood Golf Course. The Bulldogs began the final round in a tie for third place and overtook Oklahoma and Florida State to win the team championship on a blustery and cold day which saw only one team (Georgia) play a sub-par round of golf.

Georgia defeated Oklahoma by four strokes to win the team championship.

Rocio Sanchez Lobato of Georgia and Erica Popson of Tennessee finished in a tie for first place in the individual standings with identical scores of 2 under par 214. Sanchez Lobato began the final round in a tie for first place in the individual standings and maintained her placing with a 2 over par score of 74. Popson, meanwhile, began the round in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings, shot a 1 under par score of 71 and finished tied with Sanchez Lobato at the top of the individual leaderboard.

The tandem of Georgia and Oklahoma won the match-up portion of the event as they combined to defeat the duo of Tennessee and Texas San Antonio by 19 strokes. Florida State and Texas A&M combined to finish in third place in the match-up standings.

The No. 16 ranked Bulldogs were led by Lobato (tied for first), Manuela Carbajo Re (tied for 6th) and Emile Burger (tied for 14th) in the individual standings. Only Georgia and Tennessee (third place in the team standings) finished the event with as many as three players in the top 15 of the individual standings. Burger carded the best individual score of the day - a 4 under par 68 - which allowed her to move from a tie for 42nd place heading into the third round into a tie for 14th place in the final individual standings.

Oklahoma, who finished in second place in the team standings, was led by Chirapat Jao-Javanil who finished in a tie for third place in the individual standings with a 2 over par score of 216. She carded identical scores of 1 under par 71 in the second and third rounds. Sooner teammate Jade Staggs finished in a tie for sixth in the individual standings.

Tennessee, the third place team, was led by Popson (tied for first) and Chessey Thomas (tied for eighth place) as the Lady Vols had all four of the countable scores in the final round come in at 75 or better. Popson finished with two rounds of below par golf (70 in the first round and 71 in the third round) while Thomas finished with even par scores of 72 in the first and third rounds for a three-round total of 218.

Florida State was led by senior Jessica Negron who finished in a tie for third place in the individual standings with an even par score of 216. She carded an even par score of 72 in the first round and a 2 under par score of 70 in the second round.
