Women's Tennis Concludes Regular Season at UVA, VT
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 42 Florida State women’s tennis team (14-9, 6-6 ACC) will conclude the regular season with a pair of ACC matches, beginning at the No. 43 Virginia Cavaliers (9-11, 6-6 ACC) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and wrapping at Virginia Tech (11-10, 4-8 ACC) on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Despite the loss to Clemson last weekend, the Seminoles’ recent 6-0 winning streak in conference play was enough to propel the Seminoles up from No. 47 to No. 42 in the ITA national rankings this week. With just two matches remaining in the regular season before the ACC Championships, the Seminoles are looking to position themselves well heading into postseason play.
Florida State enters into Friday’s showdown with Virginia with eyes on rebounding from last year’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers last season. The Noles hold the all-time series 23-11 over Virginia.
Last season, the Seminoles fell in a close 4-3 match to the Hokies in Tallahassee. In the match, Julia Mikulski, Gabriella Castaneda, and Daniela Schippers each registered wins for the Noles, and will look to bring that experience with them to Blacksburg, Va. this time around in the Sunday morning battle with the Hokies.
Florida State holds a 16-3 advantage in the all-time series against Virginia Tech.
“Huge road opportunities await us in Virginia this weekend,” Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We have been down this road all season and we know exactly what it takes to be successful. We are ready to finish our regular season on the strongest note possible and take full advantage of the opportunities in front of us.”
Noles in the Polls
After a strong set of weekends that saw Florida State win five straight ACC matches and six overall, the Seminoles moved up five spots to No. 42 in the nation. Sophomore Julia Mikulski, who has been ranked since her career win against North Carolina over a month ago, comes in at No. 105 in the ITA singles rankings.
