TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NCAA announced more than 600 host sites today for the preliminary rounds and championships for predetermined events from 2017-18 through 2021-22. Florida State was named the host for five NCAA events including the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships. The event will be held at Apalachee Regional Park November 20, 2021. It is just the second DI NCAA National Championship hosted by FSU and the first since the 1996 women’s tennis national championships.

“I’m super excited for our program, our fans and the entire Tallahassee community” said FSU’s Head Track & Field and Head Men’s Cross Country Coach Bob Braman.

“The NCAA Cross Country Championship is a true spectacle. There’s not a better course in the country than Apalachee Regional Park to come out and experience the beauty and athleticism of our sport.”

In addition to hosting the 2021 NCAA Cross Country National Championships, FSU and Apalachee Regional Park will host an NCAA Division I Cross Country Regional in 2018 and 2020. The 2018 regional will be held Nov. 9 and the 2020 regional Nov. 13.

“Florida State Athletics and Leon County have worked together to build this world class course and their hard work, on and off the course, culminated in winning this bid,” said Braman. “Getting these championships to Tallahassee has been a personal goal since we first laid it out over six years ago. I knew we had something special and it's great that Leon County, Gulf Winds Track Club and FSU all shared that vision.

“Now I've gotta build a team that can be a contender on our home course.  I can’t wait to tell the recruits.”

FSU served as host of the AIAW Women’s National Cross Country Championships at Seminole Golf Course in 1979 – the only previous collegiate national championship meet for either the men’s or women’s cross country and track & field programs. Apalachee Regional Park opened and became the home to FSU Cross Country in the fall of 2009

The other two events awarded to FSU and the City of Tallahassee were a 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regional and a 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regional. The 2021 men’s regional will run May 16-19 and will be held at Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club. The women’s regional will be held at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club May 9-11, 2022.

“There are several reasons why we are excited to have an NCAA Golf Regional return to Tallahassee,” said Trey Jones, FSU’s Director of Golf and the men’s head coach. “None more than allowing our players the opportunity to play at home. This is an exciting time for the landscape of golf in Tallahassee and bringing great venues in to showcase that is exciting. Anytime you get a return regional, it’s a direct compliment to our athletic facilities staff. They are the professionals that make us all look good.”

Florida State has established itself as a host site for NCAA Golf Regionals over the last few years. Florida State Men’s Golf will be hosting its second NCAA Regional after playing a hosting role in 2013. Golden Eagle Country Club also hosted that year and FSU finished third and advanced to the NCAA Championship. In 2014 the Seminole Women’s Golf team hosted the NCAA East Regional at Southwood Golf Club.

“It’s an honor to have been selected to play host to one of four NCAA Regional Championships in 2022," said Amy Bond, head coach of the Seminole women's golf team.  "I am appreciative that our administration is so supportive in allowing is the opportunity to play at home during the postseason.  This will mark the third time we have hosted an NCAA Women’s Golf Regional.  I am excited to showcase the best women’s golfers in the world here in Tallahassee.”

2022 will mark the third time Florida State will play host to an NCAA Regional Championship in Women’s Golf.  The Seminoles played host in 2014 and will play host to a regional championship in both 2018 and 2022.  The Seminoles have played in a school-record 11 consecutive regional championships and will play in its 12th consecutive regional championship when the 2017 field is announced on April 27.
