TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After finishing the 2013-14 season at the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in five years, Golfweek placed the Florida State men’s golf team at No. 14 in the 2014 fall countdown. With nine tournaments this year, including four this fall, the Seminoles start their campaign at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Sept. 12.
The Seminoles lost only one player, Joaquin Lolas, from last year’s squad and welcome one freshman, Carter Thompson of Tallahassee. Although there are no seniors on this year’s roster, the team returns three players with individual collegiate wins, juniors Hank Lebioda and Rowin Caron and sophomore Jack Maguire. Sophomore Cristobal Del Solar closed out the season as one of the best players on the team and looks to carry that over to this year.
After the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, the team will compete at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which is hosted by the 2014 National Champions Alabama. The last two fall tournaments will be played in the state of Florida at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando (Tavistock Collegiate Invitational) and at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero (Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate).
The Seminoles once again start the spring season at the Gator Invitational where the members of this roster have excelled. Lebioda and Caron were both in the line-up when the team won the title in 2013. Last season Lebidoa tied for first in the individual standings as the team finished in second place.
Florida State is hosting the Seminole Intercollegiate once again at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee from March 13-15. The team finished tied for second last year after winning the team title in 2013. The team finishes the regular season at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa which the team won in 2013.
The ACC Championship is April 24-26 and is once again at the Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, N.C. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 while the NCAA Championship will be held at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. from May 29 – June 3.
