At Florida State: Maciek Sykut (first name is pronounced MAGIC) is one of the most decorated incoming freshman to ever attend Florida State University...According to head coach Dwayne Hultquist, Sykut has the potential to be one of the best players ever at FSU...Looks to make an immediate impact in both singles and doubles play.


According to Coach Hultquist: "Maciek has been a top player in the country at different age groups. He's a great athlete and a really hard worker. He's beaten the top players in the county and we're expected big things from him. He will be a great college player."


High School and Other Accomplishments: Clinched the 2004 1A title at Marathon (Fla.) High School...Advanced to the doubles championship of the 1A Florida State Championship during his senior season (2005) with doubles partner Marek Czerwinski...In 2005, ranked No. 4 in the boys 18 and under division...In March of 2005 placed third in singles a the Spring National Championships...He and partner Marek Czerwinski were doubles finalists at the same tournament...Won the singles and doubles title at the National Open in Feb. 2005...He and Czerwinski advanced to the quarterfinals of the Orange Bowl in Dec. 2004...Sykut, ranked No. 1 in the nation for the boys 16 and under division, is actually familiar with a current member of the FSU men's team, sophomore Sam Chang ...The two met in the overall finals of the 1A singles championships, but Chang had to default from the tournament...Sykut beat Kurt Zaske of St. John Neumann to win the individual singles title...He also teamed up with Marek Czerwinski to take the overall doubles title and the individual doubles crown...Since 1999, Sykut has played in 42 tournaments worldwide, with a number of singles and doubles championships...Most recently he played in the US Junior International Hard Court Championships after advancing to the finals of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) stop in Jamaica...During doubles action in Jamaica, he teamed up with Czerwinksi to win the tournament...He started the year by advancing to the second round of the Australian Open Junior Championships where he lost to world number one Gale Monfils...During 2003, Sykut had his best full season to date, moving up to No. 103 in the ITF rankings...He won four-straight tournaments during the 2003 campaign with titles at the Costa Rican Bowl, Copa Cariari, Bank of Bermuda and Bahamas International tournaments...All told he has reached the semifinals of 24 events since December of 1999 with ten victories.
