2001: The most prolific offensive player in the history of Florida State soccer, Maren Vik Edvardsen is continually rewriting the FSU record book. She is already the school’s all-time leader in points (74), goals (28) and is second all-time in game-winning goals (6). After posting nine assists, 44 shots and 26 shots on goal this season, the senior from Oslo, Norway is now second in all-time shots (131), has increased her lead as the greatest point and goal scorer in Seminole soccer history and moved into first place amongst FSU’s all-time assist leaders. She has started 21 of 22 games and appeared in every match for Florida State this season. Despite a 23-game scoreless drought that dated back to a 2-0 FSU win over Wake Forest November 2, 2001, Vik Edvardsen still found ways to help FSU win by setting a single season record with nine assists. She finally broke her goalless stretch October 16, 2001 with two goals against FIU in Florida State’s 4-1 win. Including that game, Vik Edvardsen has now posted six goals, two assists and 14 points over the last nine matches. She has posted at least one point in seven straight matches and has recorded either a goal or an assist in seven of the last nine games. She started the season by assisting on both of FSU’s goals in a 2-0 win over MAAC Champion Loyola (Md) College. She also recorded two assists in a 4-1 win over a Kansas team that finished 2001 as one of the Big 12’s top teams. Her biggest game of the season came during her two-goal performance versus the Golden Panthers. She scored the first ACC Tournament goal of her illustrious career in a 7-2 win over Maryland when Summer Corum collected the ball at the right corner of the field on a pass that led Corum to the Maryland end line. Corum sent a deep cross to the back post where Vik Edvardsen stood all alone and tucked the ball in to put FSU up 1-0. She now has seven multi-point games on the season and is third on the team with 21 points, tied for third with six goals and one game-winning goal, she leads the team with nine assists, is third with 44 shots and second with 26 shots on goal. Fifty-nine percent of her shots this season have been on frame.

Baker on Vik Edvardsen: Our all-time leading goal scorer is going to add on to that record this season. She played the entire summer in Norway with one of the country’s better teams and did very well. We expect nothing but a polished player coming into the preseason. She has gotten herself extremely fit and I think she wants to finish her college career on a high note and have her senior year be the best season ever.
