Mick Statham

Hometown:
Manchester, England

Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
1st Season

Mick Statham is in his first year with Florida State but he has 17 years of coaching experience at every level of soccer both in the US and in his native England. He has built a long standing relationship with Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian. Most recently he spent last year as the assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. He joins current U-17 US National Team head coach Erica Walsh on Krikorian's first-ever Florida State staff.

"Mick is a great addition to our staff and will be a perfect compliment to the coaches we currently have," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "He brings a wealth of background in the game and he knows the sport. His experience at so many different levels of soccer is a great asset to me and to the Florida State soccer program."

Statham has worked with Krikorian previously as a team administrator/assistant coach with the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA. He has been a staff member with the US U-19 Women's National Team and also has collegiate experience at Penn and as an assistant with the men's team at Philadelphia University and as a head coach of the men's team at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, NY.

Statham has been a fixture on the Pennsylvania soccer scene since 1999. He has served as an ODP Staff Coach in Eastern Pennsylvania, head girl's soccer coach at Radnor High School, Director of Coaching and Player Development for FC Delco, Director of Girl's Soccer and Coaching Education for the United Sports Training Center and Director of Coaching for Downington Spirit United Soccer Club on top of his time with the WUSA's Philadelphia Charge.

"I am thrilled to get the opportunity to coach at Florida State," said Statham. "There is only one coach in the country I would move my family to work with and Mark is that guy. I believe in what he does and what he is going to do at Florida State. That is as high a compliment as I can give him. I also enjoy working with Erica very much so the working environment and the opportunity for my own professional development couldn't be better.

"To be honest, the excitement over trying to win a National Championship at FSU was a big factor as well. I was impressed with the passion people at the school have for Florida State soccer. That really came across and helped make my decision pretty easy."

Statham is a graduate of Franklin Pierce College with a B.A. in Communications. He was a four-year scholarship player who played in the NCAA Tournament three of his four years as a collegian. Statham played at the Rindge, NH college during Krikorian's tenure as the women's head soccer coach.

Before his career at Franklin Pierce, Statham spent four years with one of England's most prestigious football clubs. As an apprentice professional player with Blackburn Rovers, he gained valuable experience playing along side and against some of England's and the world's top players. He went on to become a professional youth coach with Bury Football Club and gained his FA Coaching License. Statham is currently pursuing his UEFA coaching qualifications.

The Manchester, England native and his wife Kelly have four children. Ryan is 10, Matthew is eight, Megan is six and Emma was born December 9, 2004.
