Lady Seminoles Earn First Win, Over Appalachian State
BOONE, NC -- The Florida State Lady Seminoles (1-1-0) earn their first victory of the 1997 season with a 2-0 shut out over Appalachian State (0-1-0) Sunday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Midfielder Erin Grimsley notched the first goal of the game at the 26:44 off a pass from forward Janna Walkup to take a 1-0 lead. Walkup would later notch the game's final goal as she found the back of the net off a Alex Osorio pass at the 88:21 mark of the second half, sealing the 2-0 Seminole victory. Grimsley's first half score marked her second straight in as many games, while Osorio's assist to Walkup also gives her two in as many contests.
Seminole goalkeeper Melissa Juhl notched two saves, while the FSU defense held the Mountaineers to just three shots. ASU keeper Leslie Beckman recorded four saves, while the ASU defense held Seminole offense to just eight total shots.
