Florida State Volleyball Defeats Jacksonville, 3-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-23) victory over Jacksonville University Wednesday, September 4th, at Tully Gymnasium. The Seminoles remain undefeated against the Dolphins with an all-time series record of 27-0. The Dolphins fall to 1-3 on the season.
Senior middle hitter Dawn Hough led the team with a hitting percentage of .429, as she recorded eight kills on 14 attacks with two errors. She also had one solo block and seven block assists against the Dolphins. Erica Bunch stepped up in the home opener, as she recorded 11 kills on 23 attacks and three errors for a hitting percentage of .348. Sophomore Aisha Carr tallied five kills, two service aces and one solo block in the win.
"I thought we were much more in system tonight," said head coach Todd Kress. "Our leftsides and middles contributed much more than this past weekend and that is what we need to do to win."
Florida State jumped out to an early 13-5 lead and never looked back as the Seminoles defeated Jacksonville in game one by a score of 30-21. Bunch led the way for the Seminoles in game one with three kills and one block. Carr and Hough each recorded two kills for the Seminoles. Alex Sevillano stunned the Dolphins as she served two aces for Florida State.
In game two, the Seminoles defeated the Dolphins, 30-19. Kristin Frye recorded six kills to lead the Tribe in the second game of the match. Bunch and Hough contributed to the Florida State effort as they each recorded four kills. Jennifer Anderson tallied two service aces and 15 assists.
Florida State looked strong in game three as the Seminoles beat the Dolphins by a score of 30-23. Bunch recorded four kills to lead the Seminoles in the third and final game of the match. Freshman Kristen Rust and Frye each tallied two kills to help seal the Florida State victory. Sevillano and Anderson each served aces.
Florida State returns to action Tuesday, September 10th, when the Seminoles host the Ducks of the University of Oregon at Tully Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The Ducks currently hold a record of 4-1 on the season.
