CARY, N.C.  - Junior Jean-Yves Aubone has been voted Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year on Thursday, April 16, becoming just the second Seminole to earn the honor.  Aubone was also selected to the All-ACC team and was joined by senior Maciek Sykut and sophomore Clint Bowles.

"I didn't start thinking about the possibility until a couple of weeks ago," Aubone said.  "I'm a little speechless, but it's awesome to be recognized like that and I'm excited."

"If you look at how strong the ACC conference is it really is an amazing accomplishment and a credit to Jean-Yves," FSU head Dwayne Hultquist said.  "To have three guys make the All-ACC team is great and it shows how good our team is.  I'm really proud of having three guys make it."

Aubone has an 18-8 overall record and a 9-1 mark in conference.  He has won 10 out of his last 12 contests and leads the team with a 10-4 record in three-set matches.  The Miami, Fla., native is currently ranked No. 16 in the country, but earned the highest ranking in program history on March 31, when he reached the No. 11 position.  Aubone has an 11-7 record against ranked opponents including a win against the No. 2-ranked player in the country Oleksandr Nedyovyesov.  Along with doubles partner junior Vahid Mirzadeh, Aubone has risen to No. 20 in the doubles rankings with a 10-3 record including an upset of the No. 1-ranked team in the country from Wake Forest.  The All-American joins assistant coach Mat Cloer as the only two Seminoles to earn Player of the Year honors.  Cloer was ACC Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004.  This is also the second consecutive season Aubone has been named to the All-ACC team.

"It's nice to be respected by the other teams and coaches in the conference," Aubone said.  "Having the coaching respect you as a player and a person is an honor.  To have this award, especially in a conference like the ACC makes it even greater."

"Jean-Yves has put in the hard work and has committed over the summer to playing tournaments more so than probably 99% of the other guys in the country," Hultquist said.  "That's obviously paid off and made him a better player and puts him in line to follow Mat who was a two-time winner."

This is the first selection to the All-ACC team for Sykut.  The Marathon, Fla., native has compiled a team high 25 victories this season for Florida State.  He has an 8-2 singles record in ACC play in singles and 7-3 in doubles.  Sykut has earned 90 singles wins in his career at FSU and is just three away from breaking the all-time record held by Jason White (92).  He is also just four doubles and/or singles victories away from breaking the combined wins mark also held by White (171).  With a pair of doubles wins he will become the first Florida State player to earn 90 singles wins and 80 doubles victories.

"I'm really pleased for Maciek," Hultquist said.  "He's had the best year of his four years here and he's been such a consistent singles and doubles performer for us this season."

Bowles has now been on the All-ACC team in each of his first two seasons wearing the Garnet and Gold.  He is 16-8 in dual-matches in 2009 including 5-4 in the ACC.  The Tampa, Fla., native has the best record on the team against ranked competition compiling an 11-6 mark against opponents in the ITA rankings.  In just two seasons of play Bowles has already compiled 51 singles victories which puts him on pace to become the first Seminole to win more than 100 singles matches.

"Clint has had a great career," Hultquist said.  "We feel like he is a great big match player.  He comes through in a lot of tough matches against quality players."

Florida State trails only No. 1 Virginia(4) in All-ACC selections for the 2009 season.  Next up for the Seminoles is the 2009 ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C.  FSU will face No. 5-seed Duke on Friday at 9:00 a.m.  For results, photos and a match recap visit www.seminoles.com.
