TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State defeated Wake Forest in the Seminoles' ACC opener by a score of 3-1 (30-20, 28-30, 30-23, 30-18). Kristin Frye and Jennifer Anderson led the way for the tribe. With the win, Florida State improves to 9-4 (1-0 ACC) on the season, while the Demon Deacons fall to 6-8.
The seniors stepped up for the Seminoles as they each recorded double digit kills against Wake Forest. Frye led the way as she had 20 kills, one service ace and nine digs on the evening. Alex Sevillano notched 15 kills on 24 attacks and had only two errors to lead Florida State in hitting percentage at .542. Sevillano contributed to the Seminole effort as she served four aces and had six digs. Middle hitter Dawn Hough looked strong against the Demon Deacons, recording 12 kills, three service aces and one solo block. Erica Bunch compiled 11 kills against Wake Forest. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson moved into third-place among FSU's assist leaders with her first double-double of the season. Anderson tallied 56 assists and 10 digs.
Wake Forest was led by sophomore Kim Stern as she recorded 10 kills on 19 attacks and two errors to hit .421. Valerie Rydberg turned in a strong performance for the Demon Deacons, as she had nine kills, 10 digs and one solo block. Senior setter Ashlee Phillips led the Wake Forest squad in assists with 27.
Florida State will return to Tully Gymnasium Saturday, September 28th, when they host the Blue Devils of Duke. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised live on Sunshine Network.
