CHICAGO, Ill. - The No. 16-ranked Florida State men's tennis team lost 4-1 to No. 9 Mississippi in the consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago, Ill.

"It was a hard fought win for Mississippi and a tough loss for us," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We were up in some matches but we weren't able to pull it out."

In doubles FSU and Ole Miss split the first two matches with senior Chirs Cloer and junior Vahid Mirzadeh defeating Devin Britton and Otto Sauer on court three 8-3. On court one the 23rd-ranked duo of junior Jean-Yves Aubone and sophomore Clint Bowles were upended by the No. 1-ranked team in the country Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge 8-4. The Rebels took a 1-0 lead when Christoph and Marcel Thiemann defeated seniors Drew Bailey and Maciek Sykut on court two 8-6.

"Doubles is very important because when we win the doubles point we usually win," Hultquist said. "We had a chance to win doubles, but Drew and Maciek were broken at 7-6 to end the match."

The Garnet and Gold quickly found themselves in a 3-0 hole. No. 30 Aubone was beaten in straight sets on court one by Berg 6-2, 6-1 and Cloer was defeated by Sauer 6-1, 7-5 on court five. Florida State took the next point when No. 79 Sykut won against No. 89 ten Berge on court three 6-3, 6-4. Mississippi was able to finish off the match when Britton beat No. 28 Bowles in three sets 7-6, 0-6, 6-2.

"Clint's opponent played a really good third set," Hultquist said. "He has one of the bigger serves in college tennis and if Clint would have won; we were up on the other two courts so that may have turned things around."

The Seminoles will finish their time in Chicago on Sunday with a match against No. 14 Michigan at 10:00 a.m. For live stats and a match recap log onto www.seminoles.com.
