Bowerman Named ACC Rookie of the Year

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State freshman Laura Bowerman (Temple, Terrace, Fla./King) was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league on Tuesday, May 03, 2005. The eleven conference coaches voted the first-year Seminole the top newcomer on the women's side.
Bowerman becomes the first freshman Tribe member to win the award, which started in 1999. At the 2005 championships, she was the fastest underclassmen in the 10000m run with a third place finish, earning a spot on the All-Conference team. She ran a regional qualifying time in finishing in sixth place in the 5000m run. Bowerman earns the first conference award since 2000, when NCAA National Champion Tonya Carter was named ACC Performer of the Year.
The Seminoles hit the track this weekend for the 2005 Seminole Twilight meet on Saturday, May 7, 2005. The field events begin at 12:00 p.m. while the running events start at 5:30 p.m.
