Last year, Notre Dame blanked FSU 2-0 in South Bend to advance to the College Cup for the 10th time in school history. The Irish scored in each half behind goals by Jessica Schuveiller and Taylor Knaack. Casey Short led the Seminoles with three shots, while Tiffany McCarty, Rachel Lim and Toni Pressley each registered two shots a piece.

Notre Dame leads the all-time 2-1-0 as this marks the first time the two schools will face-off in Tallahassee. The 2007 College Cup semifinal marks the only victory in the series for the Seminoles as the two teams exchanged goals before Amanda DaCosta netted the game-winner in the 72nd minute for a 3-2 victory.

Friday's quarterfinal also pits two of the top 10 winningest active coaches in Division I history in FSU's Mark Krikorian and Notre Dame's Randy Waldrum. Waldrum sits fourth all-time with 338 career victories and a winning percentage of .788. Krikorian has 260 victories and a .773 all-time winning percentage. Together the two coaches have combined for 598 victories in 36 seasons.

FSU is 13-5-1 versus current members of the Big East Conference with the last four games coming against Connecticut (twice) and Notre Dame (twice). The Irish are the first team from the Big East that FSU has faced in 2009. The Noles are 5-0-1 all-time at home against schools from the Big East including a 1-0-0 record in the NCAA Tournament.
