TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 16 Florida State men's tennis team will open ACC play on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m., against No. 24 Miami at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
"I think that Miami has a great team with some top notch players," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "They are starting to get healthy and we expect a touch match against them."
The Seminoles (9-4) enter the match in the middle of a four game home stand. Last weekend FSU defeated Furman 7-0 and No. 27 Rice 4-3 to open 2-0. The Hurricanes (4-3, 1-0) lost last week to No. 7 Florida 5-2. Last season the Garnet and Gold split two matches with Miami. FSU won the first meeting 5-2 in Coral Gables, Fla., but lost to its rival 4-3 in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.
"This match is doubly important because it is the first conference match of the season and one of our big rivals," Hultquist said. "This week is kind of our week to see who the top team in the state is because we play Florida as well and the guys really look forward to these matches."
Miami is expected to add its best player to the lineup this weekend, 24th-ranked Daniel Vallverdu who has not played a collegiate singles match since the fall.
Admission is free for everyone at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. For live stats and a match recap log onto www.seminoles.com.
