TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Jean-Yves Aubone is one victory away from his second career USTA Futures title after defeating his third consecutive seeded player in Hammond, La., on Saturday.
“It’s very exciting to put this many quality matches together in a row,” Aubone said. “I’m playing the type of tennis I want to play and fighting hard and that makes me feel better about my game.”
The singles All-American defeated No. 4 seed Uladzimir Ignatik in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Aubone will now play in his third career Futures final. He owns a 1-1 record in his first two attempts with a win this summer in Peoria, Ill.
“The first couple of tournaments I was incredibly nervous to make the semifinals and finals,” Aubone said. “Now I have some experience and treat it as any other match which will help me relax.”
At the ITA Mideast Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C., senior Maciek Sykut advanced to the round of 16 in singles with a 6-3, 6-4 upset against 38th-ranked Steven Forman of Wake Forest. In the second round Sykut got earned 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Maryland’s Mattias Sarrazin. Sophomore Clint Bowle’s was upset in the second round by Old Dominion’s Tobias Fanslow in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
In doubles senior Drew Bailey and Sykut dropped their round of 16 match to Duke’s Chris Price and Torsten Wietoska 8-6.
