Florida State Men's Tennis Finishes Season With 4-0 Loss To Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team completed the 2002 season Sunday, May 11th, as they fell to in-state rival Florida at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex by a score of 4-0. The Seminoles defeated Miami Saturday to advance to the Regional Championship match, but the Gators were too much for Tribe. With the loss, Florida State ends the season with a record of 15-11, while Florida improves to 24-4.
The Seminoles battled the Gators in doubles action, but could not hang on as Florida took two of three matches to earn the first point. Florida got on the board first in No. 3 doubles, as Chris Westerhof and Jeff Groslimond fell to Matt Behrmann and Troy Hahn of Florida by a score of 8-3. Florida State's Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd, playing at the No. 1 position, tied the doubles score at 1-1, as they defeated Hamid Mirzadeh and Chris McDonald, 8-5. The Gators clinched the doubles point in No. 2 doubles, as Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub fell to Olivier Levant and Eleazar Magallan by a score of 9-8 (5).
Although the Seminoles battled in singles play, they could not get back on track, as the Gators won three consecutive matches to secure the victory. Freshman Westerhof was defeated by Hahn of Florida in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Laub, playing at the No. 6 position, fell to Florida's Magallan by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Florida clinched the match in No. 4 singles, as Florida State's Chip Webb fell to Olivier Levant, 6-1, 6-4.
