Sept. 7, 2001
Florida State University put forth a great effort but fell to the 18th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies 3-0 in the Verizon Texas A&M Invitational Friday evening, Sept. 7th at the G. Rollie White Coliseum.
Florida State played a tight first game against the Aggies only losing 30-25. FSU would drop the next two matches 30-18 and 30-19. With the loss the Lady Seminoles now fall to a record of 1-3 on the season, while Texas A&M improves to 6-0.
"We came out and played well throughout the first game of the match," said head coach Cecile Reynaud. "When the second game came around we couldn't make the right plays, definitely not playing our best. Texas A&M had some exciting plays throughout the night and we just couldn't match up with them."
In their loss to the Aggies the Lady 'Noles were paced by senior middle hitter Norisha Campbell (Universal City, Texas), who led all players with 38 attacks, adding 15 kills and closing out the night with a .289 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Alex Sevillano (Clearwater, Fl) added 28 attacks, ten defensive digs and nine kills. Junior Dawn Hough (Brandon, Fl) registered 16 attacks, six kills and five block assists on the evening. Leading the way for Florida State in defensive digs was junior Kristin Frye (Ft. Wayne, In.) with 13 while also adding 24 attacks on the night.
The Lady Seminoles return to action on Saturday, September 8 when they face No. 25 Texas in the conclusion of the Verizon Texas A&M Invitational.
