TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 15-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team begins a crucial five-match road trip on Saturday, March 7 against ACC foe No. 68 Clemson at 1:00 p.m. and No. 58 Georgia Tech on Monday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m.
“It is going to be really important for us to go up to Clemson and Georgia Tech and play well,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “Those have been difficult places for us to play the last couple of years.”
In 2007 the Seminoles (10-5, 1-0) lost a pair of 4-3 matches to the Tigers (6-5, 0-2) and Yellow Jackets (5-3, 1-0) on the road. The Garnet and Gold rebounded last season beating Clemson 7-0 and Georgia Tech 5-2 in Tallahassee.
“We realize that every ACC match is tough,” Hultquist said. “We have to get ourselves ready and be prepared for a pair of tough matches.”
Florida State will then travel to Malibu, Calif., to take on No. 14 Pepperdine on Thursday, March 12. Last season sophomore Clint Bowles clinched a 4-3 victory over the Wave with an upset victory against No. 22 Bassam Beidas at the Scott Spiecher Tennis Center.
“Our match in California will have NCAA regional implications,” Hultquist said. “If we win we will have a better shot of hosting a regional for the first two rounds.”
FSU will have a week off before traveling to North Carolina to take on Duke and UNC the following weekend. For live scoring against Clemson and a match recap log onto www.seminoles.com.
