Three Seminoles Will Compete In 2009 NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Juniors Jean-Yves Aubone and Vahid Mirzadeh and sophomore Clint Bowles will represent Florida State in the NCAA singles and doubles tournament as the fields of 64 and 32 were announced on Wednesday, April 29.
Aubone will play in both the singles and doubles tournament for the second year in a row. The reigning ACC Player of the Year is currently ranked 20th in the country and owns a 17-8 record in the spring. The Miami, Fla., native owns a 12-8 record against ranked players including a victory against the No. 2-ranked player in the country Oleksandr Nedyovyesov of Oklahoma State. Last season Aubone earned singles All-American honors by being one of the top 16 seeded players in the tournament. He made it to the second round.
Bowles will be making his first appearance in the NCAA singles tournament. The Tampa, Fla., native amassed a 24-16 record in the fall and spring including an 11-8 mark against ranked opposition. Bowles, who is ranked 58th in the country, owns 51 singles wins in his career at FSU putting him on pace to be the first Seminole to win more than 100 singles matches in his career.
Aubone will also play doubles with Mirzadeh. After becoming partners in the middle of the season the 20th-ranked duo have accumulated an 11-4 record. The pair earned a huge victory against Wake Forest, beating the No. 1-ranked team in the country Cory Parr and Steve Forman. Last season Aubone paired with sophomore Clint Bowles and made it to the second round.
The NCAA singles and doubles tournament will run May 20-25 in College Station, Texas. The Seminole men begin the team tournament by hosting a regional for the third consecutive season.
