TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State indoor volleyball team will have a program record eight televised matches in the 2013 season, announced by commissioner John Swafford of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
As part of the league’s premier deal with ESPN, the Seminoles have been beneficiaries of a television package that only expands with the additions of Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame beginning in the upcoming season. Last season, Florida State enjoyed six live events that aired on ESPNU, ESPN3 and on the league’s regional sports networks.
In 2013, Florida State’s eight televised matches is highlighted by an ESPNU contest for the third season in a row against rival Miami in a home contest on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at Tully Gym. Both teams played two seasons ago in front of a national audience as Florida State defeated the ranked Hurricanes 3-0 in its 2011 NCAA National Semifinal year. Last season, the Seminoles played at Miami on ESPNU and fell 3-1.
Six of Florida State’s eight televised matches come at Tully Gym, where the Seminoles have not lost a regular season match since the 2010 season. The three ESPN3 matches at home include a contest against Ohio State on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m., a match versus North Carolina on Nov. 1, a match against NC State on Nov. 3 and a match against Wake Forest on Nov. 22.
The Seminoles’ inaugural ACC matchup against Pitt in Tully Gym on Oct. 13 will air on RSN. Included in the league’s regional televised package is FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Florida, FOX Sports Indiana, Sun Sports, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, NESN, YES, ROOT SPORTS, and MSG.
Florida State’s two matches on the road air on ESPN3. They include a matchup at Notre Dame on Oct. 20 and a match at Virginia Tech on Nov. 9.
A total of 82 ACC fall contests will exclusively appear on ESPN networks, including six on ESPNU and 76 on ESPN3. All 82 games will also be available on computers, smartphones, tablets, Xbox and Apple TV via WatchESPN.
The league’s media rights holders will distribute at least 101 ACC fall Olympic sports events live, surpassing the previous record of 77 set last year.
“We are pleased to be able to showcase the ACC’s Olympic Sports at an unprecedented level this fall,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “With Notre Dame, Pitt and Syracuse competing for the first time as league members; it’s an exciting time for all the players, coaches and fans. We appreciate the relationship we have with our television partners and look forward to continuing to showcase the ACC and its 15 member schools.”
Florida State begins preseason practice on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. at Tully Gym. The Seminoles start their 2013 campaign at the Long Beach State Mizuno Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. against Illinois on Friday, Aug. 30.
