Mat Cloer Falls At NCAA Men's Tennis Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year Mat Cloer, a Florida State sophomore ranked No. 34th and competing in his first NCAA Tennis Championships, fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 61-ranked Alejandro Tejerina of Tulsa in first round action Wednesday morning at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.

Cloer, a Brevard, N.C., native, finished the year with an overall record of 29-12, including a 16-8 dual match mark. Cloer coasted through the ACC regular season finishing the year with a conference record of 7-1, which earned him ACC Player of the Year honors. Overall, Cloer recorded 11 wins against ranked players, highlighted by victories over 18th-ranked Hamid Mirzadeh of Florida and 23rd-ranked Anderson of Georgia Tech.

In two seasons at FSU, Cloer sports a 31-14 dual match record.
