Prequalifying Stage Begins For FSU Men's Tennis At ITA All-American Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team traveled to Chattanooga, TN. this weekend for a chance to compete in the ITA All-American Championships. FSU sent Mat Cloer, Romain Jurd and Chip Webb to play in the pre-qualifier rounds for a chance to advance into the main draw.

The pre-qualifying tournament consists of 256 singles players (and 128 doubles teams) playing for eight spots in the qualifying tournaments, which begins on Tuesday. The ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw will take place Oct. 10-13.

Cloer won his first match 6-0, 6-0 as he defeated Alex Mabred in the round of 256. Mat was one-of-two players on opening day to keep his opponent scoreless. He will face Roger Gubser at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Webb lost a tough opening round meeting with Vince Ng by a score of 3-6; 7-5; 7-6 (2). Jurd has yet to finish his match while no doubles results have been reported.

Match play will continue Saturday morning at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, TN.
