TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Jean-Yves Aubone once again proved he belongs with the best in the world defeating the top-seed at the USTA Futures event in Hammond, La., on Friday.

“It was a really tough match that I started off incredibly slow,” Aubone said.  “I just tried to stay in the match and fight as hard as I could and midway through the second set everything clicked and I started to enjoy myself more and I came out on top.”

Aubone defeated Nicholas Monroe who is ranked No. 284 in the world in three sets to advance to the semifinals.  After dropping the first set 7-5, Aubone roared back to take the second set 6-4.  The singles All-American then went on to destroy Monroe 6-0 in the third.

“I haven’t played many matches this fall,” Aubone said.  “And now I’ve played some tough matches against some really good players and it’s building my confidence and the things I have been working on in practice are starting to show now.”

At the ITA Mideast Regional senior’s Drew Bailey and Maciek Sykut rallied from a 6-1 deficet to defeat North Carolina State’s David Chermack and Julian Sullivan 9-8(1) in the first round of doubles.  Bailey and Sykut were also pushed to a tiebreaker in the second round against Duke’s Dylan Arnould and Reid Carleton, but once again the Seminole duo prevailed 9-8(4)  The team of senior Chris Cloer and freshman Chris Reiman were defeated by Duke’s Jared Pinsky and David Holland 8-1.

“I thought they returned serve well and played really good tiebreakers,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.  “Being able to get a win against a seeded team and make the third round was great and now we’ll see what they can do tomorrow.”
