TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 16-ranked Florida State men's tennis team will open the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with No. 3 Georgia on Friday, February 13, at 10:00 a.m. in Chicago, Ill. The tournament is being hosted by the University of Illinois at the Midtown Tennis Center.
"Georgia has had a great program for many years," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We are excited to play one of the best teams in the country and see how we stack up against them."
The Seminoles (6-2) enter the tournament on a four match winning streak. FSU defeated No. 36 Duke and No. 17 Oklahoma State to advance to the round of 16. The two-time defending NCAA Champion Bulldogs (5-0) defeated No. 51 South Carolina and No. 41 Washington to enter the weekend. Georgia leads the all-time series against Florida State 24-15-1, but the Seminoles have not beaten Georgia since 1970.
"Our team adjusted nicely to playing indoors earlier this year," Hultquist said. "Anytime you have the caliber of player at the top of your lineup as we do, you know you'll have a chance to win some matches. I feel really good where we are as a team right now."
The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of No. 6 USC and No. 9 Mississippi on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
