Carson, Calif. - Florida State freshman Walter Dix (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) finished in fourth place in the final in 10.29 to put him into the pool for the American 4x100m relay team bound for Helsinki, Finland, site of the IAAF World Championships. He ran the semifinals and finals at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Carson, Calif., today, June 25, 2005. The top three individuals make the open 100m event while the top six finalists are eligible for the 400m relay.
He ran crept into the finals, earning the ninth spot in the semifinals with a 10.14 clip. The five-time All-American was third in his heat behind Maurice Green and Marcelle Scales. Dix recorded the fourth fastest time in the finals, almost securing a spot on the 4x100m team.
After fouling the first jump, junior Rafeeq Curry (Miami, Fla./ACE Academy) hit a series best mark of 51'1.75" (15.59m) in the triple jump, good for tenth place.
