Florida State Volleyball To Host NC State And #11 North Carolina

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team will look to defend its 10-match home winning streak this weekend, when the Seminoles host ACC rivals NC State and 11th-ranked North Carolina. The Tribe will open the weekend, when they face the NC State Wolfpack Friday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. and will return to action when they take on the Tar Heels of North Carolina Sunday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m. The North Carolina match will be aired live on Sunshine Network.
After splitting two matches on the road this past weekend at Duke and Wake Forest, the Seminoles look forward to returning home for a pivotal series against NC State and North Carolina. Florida State hopes to continue its success at Tully Gym this weekend, as they are undefeated at home this season.
Leading the way for the Seminoles are a talented group of seniors. Middle hitter Dawn Hough leads the Seminoles with 62 block assists and a hitting percentage of .320. Hough has also put up some impressive numbers in the categories of service aces with 19 and solo blocks with 13. Opposite Kristin Frye continues to be a force for the Florida State attack, as she has recorded 161 digs, 308 kills and a hitting percentage of .302. Erica Bunch has 274 kills, 35 block assists and a hitting percentage of .271 on the season. Outside hitter Alex Sevillano leads Florida State in digs with 163 and service aces with 43. Sevillano has also recorded 253 kills and a hitting percentage of .256. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson leads the team in assists with 1070 and has the second-most service aces with 20.
North Carolina State enters the match with a record of 3-23 overall and 0-8 in the ACC. Florida State has the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 19-5. The Seminoles will look to improve to 20-5 against the Wolfpack and 11-0 at home with a win on Friday. Sophomore Maya Mapp leads the team with 259 kills and a hitting percentage of .312. Sarah Ensminger has been dominating for the Wolfpack as she leads her team with 26 service aces, 190 digs, 17 solo blocks and 61 block assists. Leading the way in the assists category is sophomore setter Lindi Sheppard with 803.
The Tar Heels enter the match with a record of 21-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 at home. The Seminoles hold a record of 22-12 against North Carolina in the all-time series. The Sunday afternoon match will be a rematch of the 2001 ACC Championship match, which North Carolina defeated Florida State 3-1. Senior outside hitter Laura Green leads the Tar Heel attack with 291 kills, 29 service aces and 256 digs. Molly Pyles has performed well for North Carolina with 229 kills, 20 aces and 203 digs. Senior setter Eve Rackham leads the team in assists with 879.
Following the weekend series, Florida State will travel to Tampa, Fla. Tuesday, October 29th, to take on the Bulls of the University of South Florida. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
