TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Auburn Tigers women's soccer team (15-4-2) defeated the University of Central Florida 2-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The victory was Auburn's first-ever NCAA win and first defeat of Central Florida.

"I was just really proud of the effort from the team," said Auburn head coach Karen Richter. "The defense played awesome; our offense created some opportunities. Megan was big-time in goal. Our bench was huge for us too."

Auburn sophomore goalkeeper Megan Rivera (13-3-2) recorded nine saves on the evening.

"I think I played well tonight," stated Rivera. "My defense played very well; the midfielders and forwards came back and helped. It was a whole team defending tonight, not just our back four."

With 11:01 remaining in the first half, Auburn freshman midfielder Jessie Allan dribbled in the box and passed back to sophomore midfielder Sara Power at the top of the 18. Power beat Kuhlman to the left side scoring her eighth goal of the year and Auburn's first in NCAA tournament action.

Later in the first half the Tigers scored their second goal of the night. At 37:19 junior defender Sandra Carnes scored her second goal of the year on an Auburn penalty kick. Sophomore forward Chrissy Culver was taken down in the box by a UCF defender while she was taking a shot on goal.

Central Florida (18-5-0) managed 14 shots on goal. Golden Knights' goalkeeper Jessica Kuhlman (17-5-0) had four saves in a losing effort.

"First off congratulations to Auburn and good luck in the next round," said UCF assistant coach Matt Dillon. "We are very proud of our team. Our seniors have done some great things. I'm disappointed in the game. We had some opportunities, but their keeper came up big."

Auburn awaits the winner of the Florida State/Ole Miss match to determine their second-round opponent Sunday, November 17 at 1 p.m.
