TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 14 Florida State men's tennis team will look to complete its five match road trip undefeated as they take on No. 28 Duke on Friday, March 20, at 3:00 p.m. and No. 34 North Carolina on Sunday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. Friday's match against the Blue Devils will be on ACC Select.
"If you look back historically Duke and North Carolina have always been two of the best teams in the ACC," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "To play both of them in the same weekend is going to be a challenge and we have always had competitive matches with both teams."
The Seminoles (13-5, 3-0) began their five match road swing with three victories. The latest win came in Malibu, Calif., a 4-3 contest against No. 12 Pepperdine. Junior Vahid Mirzadeh clinched the match for FSU with a dramtic three-set victory against Mahmoud Kamel. The Garnet and Gold now set their sights on Duke whom Florida State has beaten four consecutive times including a 5-0 win this season in the first round at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Seminoles have swept the Blue Devils in three consecutive contests not surrendering a match.
"Duke is definitely a top 25 team and we've been fortunate to have success against them of late," Hultquist said. "They've really come on recently and we know that they will give us a tough battle."
On the flip side, FSU has struggled in recent years against North Carolina. The Seminoles have dropped three consecutive 4-3 decisions to the Tar Heels including last years match-up in Tallahassee. The match came down to Maciek Sykut and Clay Donato on court four with Donato prevailing in three sets.
"Our guys are definitely hungry to get a win against North Carolina," Hultquist said. "We've always had guys from [North Carolina] on our team and they've always had some Florida players so both teams are usually familiar with one another."
Friday's match against Duke will be on ACC Select. For a link to live video on Friday and live scoring updates for both matches visit www.seminoles.com.
