Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State freshman Alex Miletich (Tallahassee, Fla./Chiles) spent Valentine's Day weekend vying for the opportunity of a lifetime in the sport of cross country, when he traveled the Vancouver, Washington to try out for the 2005 USA Junior Cross Country Team.

He finished the 8K race, which took place at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, in 12th place with a time of 26:14. The top six marks were selected for the team that will compete at the 2005 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in St. Galmier, France from March 19-20, 2005.

"For a freshman, that's a great performance," said head cross country and track and field coach Bob Braman. "Its one of the highest finishes we've ever had and I feel good about the job he did. Virtually everyone in front of him was a high school All-American. It was a great performance."

Miletich, who joined the Seminole program in the fall, redshirted his first season in Garnet and Gold. The 2004 Class 3A State Champion will run as a redshirt freshman in the fall of 2005.
