Seminole Volleyball Travels To Gainesville To Face Third-Ranked Gators

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Seminoles will put their five-game winning streak on the line Tuesday, September 24th, when Florida State travels to the University of Florida to take on the third-ranked Gators at 7:00 p.m. The Seminoles are coming off a sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU and Brown at the FSU Invitational and enter the match with a record of 8-3, while the Gators are 9-1.
Florida leads the all-time series with a record of 25-21. The last meeting between the two schools came in 2000, when Florida State fell by a score of 1-3 (8-15, 8-15, 16-14, 5-15). The last time the Tribe defeated Florida was in 1994, when the Seminoles won 3-0 (15-9, 15-13, 15-12).
Florida State will look to its seniors to lead the team past the Gators. Senior middle hitter Dawn Hough currently leads the Seminoles in four statistical categories. Hough has recorded six solo blocks, 35 block assists and a hitting percentage of .325 to lead the Seminoles this season. Outside hitter Alex Sevillano leads the Tribe in service aces with 19. With 136 kills in 11 matches, Sevillano is averaging 3.24 kills per game. Erica Bunch, after a strong showing at the FSU Invitational, leads the Seminole squad in kills per game with 3.37. Junior setter Jennifer Anderson continues to break assist records as she leads the team with 515 assists in 11 matches.
The Gators are led by senior middle hitter Benavia Jenkins. Jenkins has dominated the court for Florida as she has notched 72 kills (2.40 per game), 11 service aces (0.37 per game), 15 solo blocks and 38 block assists. Junior middle hitter Sherri Williams has a hitting percentage of .450, which tops the Gator squad. Leading Florida in assists is sophomore setter Lauren Moscovic with 354 on the season.
The Seminoles will return to Tully Gymnasium, when they host Wake Forest and Duke. Florida State is scheduled to meet the Demon Deacons Friday, September 27th, and Duke Saturday, September 28th. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Sunshine Network will broadcast the match with the Blue Devils.
