Florida State Sophomore Mat Cloer Earns ACC Player Of The Week Honors.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State sophomore Mat Cloer was named ACC Player of the Week, Monday, March 10th, after he and his team knocked off 25th-ranked Wake Forest and NC State. In those victories, Cloer went undefeated in singles play and paired up with teammate Rodrigo Laub to begin ACC action with a perfect 2-0 record.
Cloer has started the 2003 dual-match season in impressive fashion, as he has gone 8-3 in singles action. Five of his victories and all three losses have come at the hands of ranked players.
Over the weekend, Cloer went undefeated in singles and doubles action. Cloer knocked off 66th-ranked David Loewenthal of Wake Forest, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Cloer and senior teammate Laub battled a pair of Demon Deacons in Mike Murray and Derrick Spice in doubles action and came out on top, defeating the duo from Wake Forest by a score of 8-6. The following day, the Brevard, N.C., native returned to the courts and defeated R.J. Murray of NC State by scores of 6-2, 6-3. The doubles combination of Cloer and Laub overpowered the Wolfpack's Rehman Esmail and Jon Davis, 8-2.
Cloer, after earning key conference victories over the weekend, will now lead his Seminole squad, as they travel to San Diego, Calif., to take on the San Diego Toreros and the San Diego State Aztecs.
