Tallahassee, Fla. - The start to the 2007 women's soccer season is about two and a half months away and already Florida State is making headlines. The Seminoles were recently recognized by Soccer Buzz with the nation's second best recruiting class in 2007, while grabbing the top spot in the Southeast Region. The ranking is the highest garnered by the soccer team in the program's 13-year history.

"We feel as though we have a good recruiting class and are very comfortable with the players coming in for the upcoming season," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "We know we lost some very good players from last year, but we also think with the class coming in that they will develop into very good players over the course of time.

"Our staff is very pleased with the kids that will be joining us here at Florida State," added Krikorian.

Florida State will welcome eight newcomers to Tallahassee this year including five true-freshmen. The newest additions to the Seminole soccer team include freshmen Rachel Brown (Midfielder/Defender, Lake Mary, FL), Amanda Da Costa (Midfielder, Katonah, NY), Marissa Kazbour (Forward, Valrico, FL), Erin McNulty (Goalkeeper, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) and Jessica Price (Forward, Libertyville, IL). Also new to the Seminoles in 2007 are a trio of transfers including Erika Sutton (San Diego State University), Lauren Switzer (UCLA) and Kate Millstead (Penn State).

Only twice before has FSU registered a top ten recruiting class by Soccer Buzz. In 2001, Florida State earned its first top ten national ranking of eight and topped that mark in 2003 with a No. 7 national ranking. The Seminoles become just the second ACC team to finish ahead of North Carolina in national recruiting in any one year, joining the Virginia Cavaliers who ranked above the Tar Heels in 2001 and 2005. Florida State's ranking a top the Southeast Region also marks the second time, a team other than North Carolina, has earned the top spot in the region. Florida earned the No. 1 ranking in the Southeast in 2005.

Florida State will open its 2007 schedule on Saturday, September 1 as they travel to face the Portland Pilots.
