Seminole Volleyball Prepares For Weekend Action Against Duke and Wake Forest

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State, coming off a 3-0 victory over Florida A&M, travels to North Carolina this weekend for a weekend series against ACC opponents Duke and Wake Forest. The Seminoles will face the Blue Devils Saturday, October 19th, at 5:00 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. Florida State will then travel to Winston Salem, N.C. Sunday, October 20th, to take on the Demon Deacons at 5:00 p.m. at Reynolds Gym.
The Seminoles have faced both Duke and Wake Forest previously this season, taking wins in both matches. Behind the outstanding play of senior outside hitter Alex Sevillano, Florida State defeated the Demon Deacons September 27th by a score of 3-1 (30-20, 28-30, 30-23, 30-18). Sevillano led the Seminoles with 15 kills, six digs and a hitting percentage of .542. The Tribe then defeated the Blue Devils, 3-1 (19-30, 31-29, 30-25, 30-19), September 28th at Tully Gym. Leading the way for the Seminoles against Duke was senior opposite Kristin Frye. Frye recorded 19 kills, 12 digs, one solo block, three block assists and hit .485 for Florida State.
Entering weekend competition, Florida State is led by its four outstanding seniors. Frye has 278 kills, 135 digs, 54 total blocks and has hit .305 on the season. Sevillano leads the Seminoles in service aces (39) and digs (155). Erica Bunch has been impressive this season with 249 kills, 38 blocks and hitting percentage of .269. Middle hitter Dawn Hough, team leader in hitting percentage (.306), has 18 service aces, 10 solo blocks and 68 total blocks. Running the offense for the Tribe is junior setter Jennifer Anderson. Anderson leads the team in assists with 968.
Duke is led by junior middle blocker Krista Dill. Dill has tallied 189 kills, 19 solo blocks, 60 block assists and a hitting percentage of .295. Senior outside hitter Jill Sonne has dominated this season for the Blue Devils, as she has recorded 185 kills, 44 service aces, 206 digs and 44 block assists. Leading the way in assists is setter Stephanie Istvan with 566.
Wake Forest is led by freshman Valerie Rydberg. Rydberg has 227 kills, 36 service aces and 228 digs on the season. Juniors Sarah Beth DeLisle and Ashley Fisher have each contributed to the Demon Deacon effort this season with 162 kills. Ashlee Phillips has notched 114 kills, 18 service aces, 148 digs and a team-high 839 assists.
Following the weekend series, the Seminoles will return home for a week off before hosting the NC State Wolfpack and North Carolina Tar Heels October 25th and 27th.
