50 kills in four matches, numbers you might expect from one of the Seminole veterans, but that stat line belongs to freshman right side Izzy Carmona who is beginning to get comfortable with her game.
"I just go out on the court and try to play better than my last match," freshman Izzy Carmona said. "You're only as good as your last match played so I just try to be better every time I step on the court."
"It took a little bit of opportunity for her to get on the court and gain a little experience, but she has come on strong," head coach Chris Poole said.
Carmona's coming of age has benefitted the entire offense, adding another dimension to the Seminole attack.
"That gives us full rotations where we've got that big right side who's capable of putting down the ball," Poole said. "And we've still got great middles and we've still got great left sides."
The key for Carmona is a simple as one word... confidence.
"Confidence level is really important," Carmona said. "It triggers how good you're going to play. If you're not as confident on the court, you're not going to play as well."
And teammates are taking notice.
"She's one of the big factors in our success, the past two weeks," junior libero Katie Mosher said. "I think being a freshman, she's really stepping into that right side role and I think she's producing really well."
Now the freshman looks to continue being a player her teammates and coaches can count on.
"It's good, you always want to be that player that your team can trust and know you can put the ball away," Carmona said. "You want your coaches and also your team to have trust in you."
That won't be hard if Carmona continues to put up a veteran stat line.
