CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Florida State men's tennis team, currently ranked 37th in the nation, traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday, April 4th, to take on the 41st-ranked Tar Heels. At the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the University of North Carolina campus, the Seminoles earned their fourth consecutive and fifth ACC victory with a 4-3 win against their conference foe. With the win, the Tribe improves to 12-8 overall and 5-1 in the ACC, while the Tar Heels fall to 7-9 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.

The Seminoles got off to a quick start, as they won two of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub, ranked 35th nationally, defeated North Carolina's Brad Pomeroy and Daniel Pinchbeck in No. 2 doubles, 8-3. At the No. 3 position, freshmen Jeff Groslimond and Chris Westerhof continued their success, as they knocked off Geoff Boyd and Andy Metzler by a score of 9-8 (7). North Carolina's only doubles win came at the No. 1 position, where 44th-ranked Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd were defeated by 45th-ranked Trystan Meniane and Nicholas Monroe, 8-5.

After earning the first point of the day in the doubles portion of the match, Florida State carried its momentum into singles action. Senior Laub, playing at the No. 6 position, added to the Seminole lead, as he defeated North Carolina sophomore Boyd, 6-4, 7-5. In No. 3 singles, sophomore Chip Webb defeated North Carolina's Pinchbeck, ranked 105th nationally, by scores of 6-4, 6-4. Clinching the match for the Seminoles was 70th-ranked Cloer, as he outlasted 43rd-ranked Meniane of North Carolina in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

The Tar Heels won the remaining three matches, but it would not be enough, as the Tribe had already clinched the match. Junior Jurd, ranked 104th nationally and playing at the No. 2 position, fell to Nicholas Monroe of North Carolina, 7-6, 5-7, 10-4.
