No. 16 Florida State Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With Pair Of Home Matches
April 9, 2009
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 16-ranked Florida State men's tennis team will close out the regular season at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Seminoles (16-7, 6-2) will face Maryland on Friday at 5:00 p.m., and Boston College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
"We're looking forward to being at home since we've played so many matches on the road," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We've only played one match at home in the last month and it will be nice to get the energy of our crowd behind us."
Friday's match against the Terrapins will be senior night for FSU. The Garnet and Gold will honor Drew Bailey, Chris Cloer and Maciek Sykut for their contributions to the team.
Florida State has not lost to Maryland since 1984 and hold a 19-1 all-time record against the Terps.
"Our three seniors have been a part of a top 20 team their entire careers," Hultquist said. "They've helped raise the standards for the program. Drew has been one of the best doubles players for us and Chris and Maciek ranking in the top 10 on our all-time wins list shows how good these players have been for us."
The Seminoles will host the Eagles on Easter Sunday and have never lost to them in seven previous matches. Last season FSU defeated Boston College 6-1 at Chestnut Hill, Mass.
"Last season they took a doubles match and won a singles point against us," Hultquist said. "They've got some talented guys and we know that they will compete hard."
