Seminoles Picked To Finish Fifth In ACC Pre-Season Volleyball Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla - Florida State was picked to finish fifth in the 2002 Pre-Season ACC Volleyball Poll released Thursday, July 25th. The pre-season selections were determined by a vote among the nine conference head coaches. North Carolina topped the pre-season poll with 78 points. Duke, the 2001 regular-season champion, was predicted to finish in second place with 69 points. Rounding out the poll were Georgia Tech (63), Maryland (45), Florida State (42), Clemson (38), Wake Forest (36), Virginia (24) and NC State (10).
The Seminoles finished the 2001 season with an overall record of 17-12, 10-6 in the ACC. A conference record of 10-6 tied Florida State with Wake Forest for fourth place at the completion of the 2001 ACC regular season. Five starters return to the Seminole squad in 2002, including outside hitters Erica Bunch, Kristin Frye and Alex Sevillano, setter Jennifer Anderson and middle hitter Dawn Hough.
Florida State opens the 2002 season in Normal, Ill., as the Seminoles take part in the Illinois State Tournament on the weekend of August 30-31. The first ACC match for the Tribe will take place on September 27, when they host Wake Forest at Tully Gymnasium on the campus of Florida State University.
