Q&A With Seminole Senior Holly Peltzer

Various features on this year's four seniors, which include Libby Gianeskis, Melissa Samokishyn, Holly Peltzer and Kirsten van de Ven, will be displayed on the official athletics website in what we call 'Senior Takes...'. This week Seminoles.com sat down with Holly Peltzer for an exclusive one-on-one Question and Answer session.

Q: How did it feel to score the first goal of the season for the Seminoles so quickly?
A: It was against Portland, a big rival as of late. Everybody was pumped up for the game and it felt good to put it in and go up 1-0. It was in the first couple of minutes of the game, I got a good ball from Sanna (Talonen). Sanna dribbled down the sideline by one defender and crossed it past the goal. It went under Mami (Yamaguchi) and I was there to tap it in.
Q: As a senior on the team, are you taking more of a leadership role for the younger players?
A: I think everyone has a say on the team as a leader. Being a senior and this being my last year, I'm really trying to help the freshman as I wanted to be helped when I was a freshman. I have taken on a leadership role to help them feel comfortable.
Q: You were involved as an Alzheimer's Respite Care Volunteer, how did you contribute as a volunteer?
A: When I was there my grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's. I basically cared for them, helped entertain and talked with them. It was a place they came for a few hours out of the day to occupy their time with other people. I played games and I talked with them.
Q: Do you do anything specific to train for the upcoming season?
A: Last summer and this summer I played in the women's league in my town for the Strikers. I played on that team with a few players that were freshman coming here to Florida State. I did individual training with a trainer and a strength and conditioning program.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals and who on the team has the strangest pre-game ritual?
A: I have a pretty normal ritual, I do have this little card in my locker with little things I do well or things to pump me up so I read that card before a game. I always tape my socks with electrical tape, that's kind of my thing. Kirsten (van de Ven) does an abdominal workout before she goes out to play. She does core stability and jumps and stabilities for her knees. She does her own workout before the game.
