Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State women's soccer program has ranked among the nation's best over the last two seasons. Since the arrival of head coach Mark Krikorian in 2005, the Seminoles have posted a combined record of 38-8-5 and have finished no lower than second place in the ACC. Heading into the 2007 season, the expectations remain high while Krikorian and the Seminoles look to make their third consecutive trip to the College Cup. But first the 2007 squad will have to face the challenges of this year's schedule which features an even split of nine home and nine away matches.

"We are really excited about the '07 schedule," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "We have a collection of other teams, never mind the ACC schedule, that is going to be very challenging for us. We are interested in playing the best teams that are available. Starting out in Portland will be a tough task for us, but we are looking forward to it."

Twelve teams on this year's schedule recorded 10 or more wins a season ago. Nine schools earned a bid to participate in the 2006 NCAA Tournament, while six of those teams played into the third round of the tournament.

For the second straight year, Florida State will square-off against the defending national champs as they host the North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday, September 27 at 7:00 pm at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU defeated Portland, the 2005 champions, 2-1 to kick start the 2006 schedule.

A year after opening the season at home against Portland, the Seminoles return the favor by playing the Pilots in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, September 1 to open the 2007 ledger for both schools. The Seminoles will remain in Portland for the Labor Day holiday to face Cal-State Northridge on Monday, September 3.

"Getting the chance to go out and start in a very hostile environment in Portland is a great opportunity for our team. The Pilots have been an outstanding team. They play beautiful soccer; they are talented and well organized and we look forward to that start," explained Krikorian.

Four days later the Seminoles will open at home as they welcome Francis Marion to Tallahassee in the first meeting between both schools.

Florida State will also play a pair of SEC schools who finished atop their respective divisions last year in Florida (East Division champs) and Auburn (West Division champs). The Gators host the Seminoles on Sunday, September 9, while the Tigers will make the trek to FSU on Saturday, September 15.

Other non-conference home opponents include Troy and North Florida. Florida State will travel to Orlando for a weekend match-up against UCF on September 22 to conclude its non-conference regular season schedule.

FSU will close out the season with 10 straight ACC matches leading up to the ACC Tournament beginning November 7 in Orlando, Fla. at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Seminoles open conference play at home against the Tar Heels on Thursday, September 27. FSU will also host NC State, Maryland, Boston College and Miami. Road tests for the Seminoles in league play include matches at Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Duke and Clemson.

"The ACC schedule has the chance to make or break a season. We need to be on top of our game, stay healthy and get some positive results in league play that will provide our team with the appropriate preparation if we are fortunate enough to play in the NCAA Tournament. With such a strong conference and a great collection of teams, we know that we will be challenged every time out," stated Krikorian.

The Seminoles and Tigers will wrap-up their respective regular season schedules against each other for the third straight year. Florida State carries an eight game unbeaten streak into that November 1 match-up against Clemson.
